What the Garda requires in case of an accident

You must keep you vehicle at the scene of the accident for a reasonable time.
However, to avoid obstruction and danger, the positions of the vehicles should be marked and the vehicles moved to the side of the road. A driver must, if requested, supply the following information:

  • Name & Address.
  • Name & Address of vehicle owner (if applicable)
  • Vehicle registration number.
  • Evidence of insurance.

If the Gardai are not present, you must give this information to an independent witness.
Where a person or persons are injured, the accident, must be reported at the nearest convenient Garda Station if no Garda is present at the scene of the accident. Where damage to property only is involved it is not necessary to report the accident at a Garda Station provided the driver gives necessary particulars to the person whose property has been damaged.
